Humility Chaise: Interpretative Design

This 10 day partner project is a manifestation of the word humility. Meant as an instilation in the grand scheme of the park, it is almost uncomfortable, close to the earth, and extremely simple. This project was also limited to a $100 dollar budget; Kendall and I spent $68 of that.

"Humility is the mother of giants. One sees great things from the valley; only small things from the peak."
G.K. Chesterton, 'The Hammer of God'
inspired by barrel bindings, the straps both maintain the curvature of the chair and attach it to the anchor/support. These were hand hammered and bored for bolts. The wood is thrice ripped 2x4 lumber, hand sanded, with routed edges.
the comfort test... it passed
a gap was left to provide an easier grip for elderly hands, another in the basin of the seat for drainage
on site
christened with it's first snow
since completion, I have been approached about recreating this project for sale. this is something I'm very excited to pursue further after graduation
